Want to buy an old fire station? Springfield willing to chip in $50,000 for redevelopment
After four unsuccessful efforts in recent years to sell the former century-old Oak Street fire station in Indian Orchard, the city is trying again — this time with a $50,000 incentive offered to a buyer willing to redevelop the site. The city’s first-time offer up to $50,000 to a successful bidder is from the city’s annual allocation of federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, as approved by Mayor Domenic J. Sarno. The incentive is for exterior improvements such as roof, masonry and window repairs, according to the city’s advertisement for proposals.
