UMass professor receives grant to educate Springfield community college students

An educator at the University of Massachusetts Amherst has received a grant that she will use to help local community college students gain experience conducting scientific research.  Trisha L. Andrew, an associate professor of chemistry at UMass, has been given a $2,500 L’Oreal USA Changing the Face of STEM grant. Andrew, whose lab specializes in wearable technology and textile electronics, will train ten students from the Springfield Technical Community College as interns in a program to create garment-integrated sensors. The students will be provided with a stipend for their work with the program.
