STCC gets $1.15 million for programs in photonics, ‘internet of things’

On Monday, U.S. Rep. Richard E. Neal, D-Springfield, was at Springfield Technical Community College to announce $1.15 million in National Science Foundation grants aimed at preparing students to work not just in the self-driving car industry, but in jobs involving many applications of these technologies. The grants include $599,388 to develop Professor Gary J. Mullett’s “Internet of Things Education” project and $551,202 to develop Professor Nicholas M. Massa’s “Problem Based Learning in Advanced Photonics Manufacturing Education” project.
