Springfield Plaza owner sees new tenants in Kmart spot in ’18

An owner of Springfield Plaza expects to have one or more new tenants in the shopping center’s former Kmart space sometime in 2018. But don’t expect one big major retailer to take the entire 70,000-square-foot space occupied by the discount retailer until this fall. Charles Irving, a principal of Springfield Plaza co-owner Davenport Companies, said this week that retail has changed, and the demand now is for smaller spaces.
