The city is considering the creation of two local historic districts downtown, aimed at preserving the home of the Springfield Innovation center on Bridge Street and a deteriorated, “unusual” house at 60 Byers St. Both the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the Springfield Historical Commission have approved the proposed districts in recent months, and the City Council added its first-step approval on Monday night. Final approval from the council is pending at a future meeting.
