Springfield Business Improvement District appoints a new Executive Director
The Springfield Business Improvement District, a strategic partner in the city’s efforts to recruit, develop and support strong businesses, events, and community building in Downtown Springfield, has announced the hiring of Michelle Grout as its new Executive Director. She fills the vacancy created by Chris Russell’s departure in late December 2022. Michelle brings over 10 years of experience within the organization, recently serving as the Interim Executive Director.
As Executive Director, Michelle will lead the organization’s efforts to promote and improve the Springfield downtown district. Michelle’s extensive knowledge of the organization and deep understanding of the community make her uniquely qualified to lead these efforts.
“The Members of the Springfield Business Improvement District could not be better served than by Michelle Grout. Throughout her prior tenure, Michelle has demonstrated her leadership and dedication to the Downtown District, and as Executive Director, she will leverage her experience and skills for strategic opportunities from which the District will grow and flourish for years to come,” Jeffrey Fialky, Bacon Wilson.
“We are thrilled to have Michelle as our new Executive Director,” said Jim Hickson, Board Chair of the Springfield BID and Regional President of Berkshire Bank. “Her experience and dedication to the organization make her the perfect choice to lead us forward.”
The Springfield BID works to restore and promote business activity in targeted commercial areas with a range of management, marketing, and economic development services and programs. The SBID covers the 26 blocks of Downtown Springfield. As the third largest city in Massachusetts, Springfield serves as the arts, culture, and entertainment hub for the region. The Springfield BID produces signature events, including the Duryea Way Wine & Beer Garden (new this year), Springfield Restaurant Week, Downtown Ice Invasion & Farmers Market at Tower Square Park, and more.
The Springfield Business Improvement District is excited to welcome Michelle Grout to this new role and looks forward to the positive impact they will have on the community.
