Saying Boston gets whatever it wants, WMass business leaders blast MassDOT’s ‘disrespect’ of Greater Springfield politicians who want Interstate 91 viaduct buried

The Economic Development Council says the Massachusetts Department of Transportation disrespected local leaders this fall when it chose that cheaper option for the long-term future of the roadway. “If Marty Walsh walks into DOT and says, ‘I want this alternative,’ nobody says ‘No, Mayor of Boston, stick it in your ear and go away.’ The mayor of Springfield, not so much,” Springfield lawyer Paul P. Nicolai said Friday in an interview. Nicolai is chairman of the EDC’s infrastructure committee and one of the people who helped formulate the EDC’s response to the transportation department’s final report on a multi-year I-91 study released last week.
