Salons raise more than $5,000 for Unify Against Bullying

When salon owner Kelly Murphy attended a fashion show put on by Unify Against Bullying a couple of years ago, she immediately wanted to get involved with the anti-bullying nonprofit. “We were blown away,” said Murphy, the owner of The Cutting Edge Salon and Day Spa in Agawam. “I thought, why not bring local salons together … for a great cause?” Murphy organized the Cut-A-Thon, a daylong event in which salons donated profits from haircuts, blowouts and styling to Unify. Two salons participated in 2016, the first year, but last October six salons – five in Western Massachusetts and one in Melrose – participated.
