Redevelopment proposals for Springfield’s former York Street Jail site include apartments, hotels

The unused York Street Jail site on West Columbus Avenue could be home to 70 to 100 apartments, according to one of three proposals the Springfield Redevelopment Authority has received. The property might still become a hotel, a proposal that became public back in March. Developers Dinesh Patel of East Longmeadow and Vid Mitta of Lexington — also two of the investors who own Tower Square and the Tower Square Hotel — submitted the apartment idea in response to a request for proposals put out earlier this month by the Springfield Redevelopment Authority, which owns the 2.5-acre former jail parcel.
