Morgan-Sullivan bridge project to last 47 months, MassDOT tells West Springfield crowd

The busy Morgan-Sullivan bridge along Rt. 147 will be reduced to two travel lanes for 36 to 40 months, but preliminary and finish work will extend the time frame further still. “There’s basically 47 months of construction,” said Shawn Clark, project manager for Northern Construction Service, LLC, which submitted the low bid of $21.5 million to rebuild the Westfield River span linking West Springfield and Agawam. Work started in September. One lane each way will be available this month, and four travel lanes should be restored by spring of 2021. “Full beneficial use” with five lanes is slated for spring of 2022, with project completion expected in August of that year.
