Alex Dixon, the general manager of MGM Springfield, says it’s easy to teach a new casino employee how to deal cards. What they can’t teach is a smile. “One thing that never fades is a smile,” Dixon said to a crowd of 300 people at the Commonwealth Workforce Coalition conference in Worcester on Thursday. “And that’s the first thing that we look for when people walk through our doors looking to get hired.” MGM Springfield, a $960 million project that will be the largest private development project in the history of Western Massachusetts, is bringing 3,000 jobs to the region. The resort casino is scheduled to open on Aug. 24, ahead of schedule.
