MBTA will put the 1st Springfield-built CRRC Orange Line cars into service on Wednesday

The first six Springfield-built Orange Line cars go into service Wednesday at Wellington Station in Medford, the MBTA announced Monday.

All told, Springfield-based CRRC MA has shipped 10 of the cars — at a cost of $2.43 million each — to the Boston-area transit system, said CRRC spokeswoman Lydia Rivera. The cars go into service as six-car trainsets.
