Massachusetts Department of Transportation East-West Passenger Rail Study Update

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has released the Final Report for the East-West Passenger Rail Study

MassDOT has released the Final Report for the East-West Passenger Rail Study. The study examines the potential benefits, costs, and investments necessary to connect people in western Massachusetts communities with central and eastern Massachusetts using a passenger rail service that provides fast, frequent, attractive service in a cost-effective and achievable manner.

The final report for the Study recommends further consideration of the three Final Alternatives, as well as next steps to gather information that could further inform conversation about new transportation options for the corridor.

The East-West Passenger Rail Study is a step forward in realizing the potential for enhanced service within the corridor. The study’s next steps could advance opportunities for turning East-West passenger rail from a subject of study to a project that can be designed, permitted, funded, built, and operated.

We greatly appreciate the feedback we have received from members of the public and other key stakeholders, as it has helped guide East-West Passenger Rail Study process.
