Holyoke STEM Academy awarded $175,000 state grant; open house Thursday

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education awarded the Holyoke STEM Academy a $175,000 21st Century Learning Center grant. The recently opened academy caters to middle school students interested in science, technology, engineering and math.  The academy shares space with the newly named Holyoke High School Dean Campus, formerly the William J. Dean Technical High School. It will host an open house Thursday. The federally funded grants support out-of-school learning and programs, aids in closing proficiency/opportunity gaps, bolster student engagement, promote social and emotional learning, and strengthen career and college readiness, according to the state.
