Holyoke commission deems 43 Canal St. historically significant; community center planned

OneHolyoke, a nonprofit housing organization, bought the 1840s row house in February 2018 and plans to use it as a community center. Executive Director Michael Moriarty said the historic designation would help in obtaining official recognition by the state, which would enable it to receive preservation grant funding.  OneHolyoke will seek a $55,000 Community Preservation Act Grant to renovate the row house. The Holyoke Community Preservation Act Committee administers the grants.
