Governor Baker to Brief Business Leaders on June 11, 2019
Springfield Business Leaders to Host Education Briefing with Governor Baker
I’d like to invite you to join Springfield Business Leaders for Education for a session with Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker on Tuesday, June 11 at 10 a.m. on the Center Court of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame where he will discuss public education and pending legislation on school finance reform with area business leaders.
The debate on Beacon Hill about updating the formula for local funding and addressing persistent achievement gaps is entering a critical phase.
In spite of high overall rankings for public education in Massachusetts, Gateway Cities like Springfield and Holyoke lag far behind in proficiency for math and reading. If unaddressed, students who underperform and enter the workforce will have a hard time finding employment that will sustain them, and many jobs needing a skilled and educated workforce will go unfilled.
This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make a real difference in the quality of our schools, so it is vital for the voice of the business community to be heard now.
