Urban schools — public, Catholic and charter — will send promising paraprofessionals to the College of Our Lady of the Elms to earn their degrees and get their teacher certifications in a subsidized program announced Tuesday. Called the Center for Equity in Urban Education, the program will also provide in-service training to working teachers in schools throughout the region, said Anthony L. Klemmer, acting director of the center and founder and president of the Center for Better Schools and the National Academy for Advanced Teacher Education.
