The Innovation Institute at the MassTech Collaborative, in partnership with US Congressman Richard Neal and the Western Mass Economic Development Council, hosts an ongoing convening and knowledge sharing series called the “The EastWest Exchange” to unite the industrial and technological strengths of Massachusetts to drive more commercial activity within the Commonwealth. The first EastWest Exchange, held in August 2020, highlighted the industrial and innovation strengths of Western Massachusetts and attracted major Massachusetts-based technology firms, such as iRobot, IDG, Wayfair, and General Dynamics to discuss their successful sourcing of talent and suppliers in the region.
The success of the first event prompted the development of follow-on events, called the “EastWest Exchange: Sector Series”, focused on key innovation sectors of the Massachusetts economy. Aerospace & Defense is the first sector to be highlighted in the series as Massachusetts manufacturers have a strong machine tooling legacy supported by a vibrant manufacturing innovation ecosystem that can support efforts to reshore the industrial base.
Objective of Defense & Aerospace EastWest Exchange
Convene government officials, industry leaders from prime defense contractors in Massachusetts, and western Massachusetts-based manufacturers to share information on sector trends and present opportunities for more defense production in the Commonwealth.
