Coming for Holyoke E.N. White School students: STEM middle school

Courses in science, technology, engineering and math — known as STEM — will be the focus of a new middle school that will begin in the fall at Dean Technical High School, officials said Monday. “A STEM experience will offer our students highly engaging, hands-on learning that promotes strong problem-solving and communication skills,” said Stephen K. Zrike, the state-appointed receiver in charge of managing the public schools. “These skills are critical to achieving success through college and in today’s dynamic workforce,” he said. The new school will be for middle school students from E.N. White School, 1 Jefferson St., because that school is running out of space as it offers dual-language programs to students, he said.
