Big Y Springfield distribution expansion gets $4M local tax incentive
The state gave its approval to an eight-year local property tax incentive to Big Y Foods for the expansion of its distribution center on Roosevelt Avenue. The incentive, already approved by the city of Springfield, has a value of about $4.2 million, according to a Office of Housing & Economic Development news release issued Wednesday. Springfield-based Big Y is nearing completion of a $46 million expansion and renovation of its distribution center. The supermarket chain is doubling the size of its warehouse, adding 232,000 square feet to make a new total of 425,000 square feet. The project is expected to be completed this year.
