Berkshire delegation says east-west rail means trains, not slower, cheaper bus service

East-west passenger rail from Boston through Worcester and Springfield should not rely on a bus link to reach Pittsfield, the Berkshire County delegation to the state Legislature reiterated this week. The five lawmakers expressed their concerns in a letter to state transportation officials Monday, one week after state Rep. William “Smitty” Pignatelli, D-Lenox, voiced his opposition to bus links during a meeting in Springfield. Pignatelli’s remarks to the East West Passenger Rail Advisory Committee prompted applause from business and civic leaders representing the Berkshires.
