Baystate Health has received $1 million from the state budget to support an educational program designed to establish a pipeline for primary care physicians who will practice locally. The Population-based Urban and Rural Community Health (PURCH) educational track is part of the University of Massachusetts Medical School regional campus at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Twenty-one students – 15 of whom are Massachusetts residents – were accepted from a pool of 151 candidates who applied to become a part of the PURCH program.
