A private development group that includes the owner of Mexicali Mexican Grill has bought the 130-year-old Sugden Block in downtown Spencer and plans to redevelop the building to include an expanded restaurant with 16 apartments above. Peter Venuto, construction manager for the project, said in a statement that the developers plan to preserve and renovate the existing commercial building at 117 Main St. to include an expanded and reconfigured Mexicali Grill on the first floor and the creation of 16 apartments on the upper two floors.
