The Greater Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau (GSCVB) is one of 13 regional tourism councils in Massachusetts. Its mission is to promote Massachusetts' Pioneer Valley, (Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin counties) as a year-round destination for conventions, meetings, group tour and leisure travel.
Established in 1985, the bureau markets primarily to meeting planners and group tour operators, as well as travel and mainstream media through the annual Guide to Massachusetts' Pioneer Valley, the Destination Planner and a variety of other specialty items and brochures. Recognized as the "go-to" agency for tourism inquiries in the Pioneer Valley, the GSCVB has been an affiliate of the Economic Development Council of Western Massachusetts since 2000 and is governed by a 20-member board of directors.
Among the bureau's services are familiarization tours, site inspections and hospitality services for meeting planners, media and group tour operators. The GSCVB also produces the annual Howdy Awards Program, to honor excellence among the region's hospitality industry workers.
The bureau's 350 member properties include the region's leading accommodations, tourist attractions, restaurants and tourism industry-related organizations. This organization is primarily funded through a state marketing grant, membership dues, marketing/advertising programming and other grants.
